I have a '74 t-top that only has a mirror on the drivers door, no sign of one ever being on the other side. The car has been repainted. I found out from a previous owner that it had passenger side damage. Did '74's have two mirrors, and if so , does anyone have one for sale?

I don't think any of them came stock with a passenger mirror, but I believe from some of my GM records that it was offered as a option. You can purchase the passenger side mirror from just about any of the corvette specialty shops. I have been thinking about adding a right side one myself, but I always seem to find reasons to work on other things first.

My 76 only had the one on the driver's side as well. I really like having that passenger side mirror. With the flat window the sloped roof panel, it really helps in seeing what's coming!
I went with the sport mirrors for two reasons. 1) I think they look nicer than what originally came with the car, and 2) the remote control without opening the window.

I read somewhere that the passenger side mirror was a dealer installed option (don't remember if that included the sport mirror years or not). A P.O. put one on "The Toy" and it is not a good fit (it's loose at the base mount and flops around some). It's also not the same size as the driver's side mirror so when some $$$ free up I'll be getting a matching set to install.

I have one on my Passenger's side that was there when i bought the car and it is a very close match to the driver's side. I know the driver's side has manuf info marked in the glass but I'd have to check to see if the passenger's side is marked the same.

When I ordered my Vette in '75, the passenger side mirror was a dealer option. '75 was the first year haveing a wider mirror, '74's and earlier are narrower.

When I first got my '69, I went to the local Corvette restoration shop and told them I wanted to have them install a passanger side mirror. They refused to do it. The reason given was " since it will only be held on with mounting screws, if anyone bumps into it at a show, there is a chance of shattering the fiberglass door skin ". Apparently, there is some type of metal bracket under the skin on the driver's mirror that adds strength and stability to the mirror base and will allow more stress to be placed on the base of the mirror. Could it be that 'back in the day' the dealer actually installed that metal bracket on the passanger side??

I've got a driver's side all torn up at home. I'll look on the 16th and let you know if it has the bracket.

Yeah, laugh it up. car looks good now, if only the door closed right...

There is a metal plate bonded to the inside of the door skin on the drivers side. The plate is drilled and tapped for the mirror screws. I believe it is a 10-24 screw. I am not certain you can see the plate as the space is very tight. The plate can be drilled and tapped several times if the mirror gets torn off. My 69 now has 3 pair of holes, but no passenger mirror. Bonding a suitable plate to the passenger side seems reasonable if you can find a path. Would be interesting to discover if all passenger doors came with a side mirror mounting plate from the factory.
