If I buy a 73 or later car, can I convert the rear window to a pop out type?, how much work would be involved?

Yes you can. I have seen this on a 73 T-top. It is expensive though as there are quit a few little peices that you will need to come up with. I think I heard that it was close to $1k in parts.

I got the whole thing, including shipping for $300 minus the tray. That included the rear glass, weatherstrip, lower guides, upper latches, and the rear upper window trim pieces.

Sounds like a great deal! Where did you find it? I would like to do this to my 73.

I was just getting ready to post a thread asking when was the last year of the removable rear window. Would this have been in 72? I have a 75 and am very much interested in having this removal window option. Seems that it would cause a air flow somewhat like a convertible or more like a convertible. If you could send information on where you purchased this kit I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,,,,, |bouncy| |thumb|

According to the Corvette Black Book by MIke Antonick 1972 was the last year for the pop out rear window (unique to cars from '68-'72).

To qoute from the book: Speaking to Car&Driver magazine, Zora Arkus-Duntov stated removal of the rear window created too much interior buffeting and that this, not cost savings, was the reason for a fixed window in 1973. Ok Zora, we believe you (wink, wink, nod, nod...!!!). |laugh|

My rear window has some significant scratches on it from excessive "in & out" over the years. Anyone run across good replacements for a '71 rear window? |rollysmile|

Hi,
You said you found the parts for a pop out rear window conversion for $300. Could you tell me where you found it? I would really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Marc.

Its been so long since I have had my back window it, I'm not sure that I can even find it. I love it, and anyone that does not have it and can install it for 300 bucks its well worth it. I also do not have a tray, I believe it was one of those things that quicly found its way out of the rear for more room. I might be interested in purchasing one if someone know where to look, I have checked the normal suppliers and if I recall its not available.
