Prep front and rear bumper for paint?

Hi all,
 
I am stripping the paint off my 76 vette. But, when I bought the vette. The bumpers were a different color.(black) It appears not to be painted. Am I not suppose to strip the bumper? Is it already prepped for paint?

Depending on the material, chemical stripper might damage it.  But if it is the factory sealer, all it needs is a good scuff with a Scotchbrite, then a thin coat of epoxy primer, sealer and paint.  It is best to avoid too much paint build-up.

Without seeing it, I think Larry is on target.  You may want to make sure to use a flex additive in the paint when you do apply color.  This will keep the paint from cracking with the bumper flexing in the future.

I read recently in Auto Restorer (the great Larry Lyles) that the flex additive dissipates quickly as the paint cures and its only purpose is to prevent the paint from cracking while mounting a flexible bumper.  I too used the flex additive during my repaint because I thought it was permanent thing.  Any comments or truth to that?
