Vette(s): 1981, Black/Black, Engine bumped to about 400HP.Ext/int mostly stock.
I plan to strip the old, dull clear coat off my '81 alloys and polish them to the highest shine possible. Any recommendations on what to put on them to keep 'em shiny longest, with the least amount of maintainance? Clearcoat? Wax? I'd like to hear what others have done and how it worked.
Thanks!

Hey Chech...I've got an '82 with I'm guessing the same chrome wheels. I never striped them but had huge success with Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish. It's the best I've found to date. You can buy it at Auto Zone or Advanced Auto. Took off the years of buildup and gave them a great shine. They really look new again. Now, expect to spend some time on each wheel, don't let the polish dry on the wheel. I started on the outside and worked in. The really tough place was between the lug nuts. One other place you may want to look is Griot's Garage. I hear their (wheel) product is good too. www.griotsgarage.com

Hello,
I used Mother's polish on my wheels also and it does work very well. I used an alloy wheel clear coat that I bought at Autozone to protect the finish. |biggrin|

Vette(s): 82 Silver/Gray with 80k miles, rear 275/60/15,
i have used a product called Zoop-Seal to protect rims. it is very very good in the clearness of the coating. it takes no shine away like regular clear coatng does. it is supposed to protect for 3-4 years. it is not cheap at 100.00 a bottle and the shelf life of three weeks.

I used Maguires mag wheel spray cleaner, got in between the lug nuts with a small bottle brush, followed that up with Mothers mag polish and now they look so good you would think they are chromed. |biggrin| |cheers| |wavey|
