Greetings,
My radio doesn't work, and I expect the cause to be a bad antenna connection. Also, the body mounted antenna is loose, may not be grounded, etc. Is it possible to install an electric antenna that will bring the antenna flush to the body? As long as I'm starting this project, I'd appreciate some advice . . . If possible, I'd like to avoid putting a hole in the car cover . . .
Thanks!

You can install an electric antenna...later models had them optional. Just make sure it's well grounded...usually by a ground strap attached to the frame or something similar. It would be good to affix a metal plate to the base inside the car body to form a ground plane for better antenna performance. Look at how your present antenna is attached for an idea. You may also need a heat shield between the power antenna motor and the muffler.

Most vendors likely carry an electric unit, but you can find them at Pep Boys, Auto Zone, NAPA...most any auto supply carries universal power antennas. You may need to measure how much room you have so you don't buy one that is too long when it retracts under the body.
I put one in over the winter. Got it from antenna X off e-bay. He is a regular there. Went in like a charm. I had to install a switch as I didn't have a relay. Seems like it was about 35$ and shipping.

You MUST have a ground plane as Gunslinger has stated. On normal cars the metal body of the car acts as a ground plane. On our Vettes we don't have that luxury so one has to be put in. Get hold of an Ecklers catalogue and you will see plenty of views of what is required. If you don't put one in you WILL have problems like range and noise.
