Topic: Rear bumper cover replacement
in Forum: C3 Body
Decided to go with the tru-flex (fiberglass) version. Had a second thoughts as soon as I hit the purchase button but headed down this path now. Justed started to install today and already come across a couple of issues:
Hey Graham! Case75 here. Nice to see you on here. How's that bumper install going?

I replaced both front and rear bumpers with Truflex bumpers and anything that supported the orginal urethane bumpers had to come off. I have a 77 vette and replaced the rear with a 82 bumper. Needless to say there was work involved getting it to line up!

Thank you! It's not original, It's me and it's mine. Post the install I would like to see it!

It does require some grinding, filling and sanding. Your car looks great!

I am also installing a replacement bumper on my 1978 c3. And was wondering, does anyone use the original 4 brackets that are shaped to the bumper lines. I watched a few videos and it doesnt appear that they do? I ordered the aftermarket bolt kit with the T-shaped bolts. On a different note, i took the 2 main shock absorber brackets that hold the bumpers metal, and had them shortened by several inches, thus making the bumper support fit inside the new fiberglass skin. I see some say they take all that out, but i looked at the fiberglass, and the gas tank that sits directly in front of it..... and pictured some young kid in their phone not paying attention, doing 50mph,when im out for a slow sunday drive. Aside from shortening the main brackets, i also had to cut on some edges of the support for a snug fit into the cover. Needless to say its been a work in progress, but its on the car now with the 4 bolts on each side to that support. Now im to ready to put those 18 or so bolts in before i glass it. Hence the question of the bars. Again, off subject, but my front bumper is the original urethene ,or whatever it is. The prior owner filled the seam with bondo, and you all know how that lasted. But i too, wamt no seam. I sanded amd chipped all his old off and am attempting my own, basically fiberglass skin over it. Its difficult to get much to stick so i have been drilling holes in problem areas, and it is a slow, patience testing process.
