I've been toying with the idea of removing the rear luggage carrier on my 77. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it too much of a hassle? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well, after reading all the suggestions, and knowing that if I remove the carrier and plug the holes, I'll be wanting new paint as well. That's not in the cards right now. so I guess I'll leave things as they are for the time being. Thanks for your input.

can be a pain in the ^&% mine we had to drill out. If your not replacing it you will have a bunch of holes that will have to be fixed.
I'm thinnkin of removing mine too, but the wife has too much luggage

Mine's a '79, so I don't have a luggage carrier.

If I had a '77 or earlier I'd definitely keep it on the car.
IMHO the luggage carriers which are in good shape enhance the look of a C3.

I always thought the "luggage" rack was intended to carry the T-Tops (at least on coupes) and the luggage was supposed to go on the inside.
Regardless...no one buys a C3 (or really any other generation Vette) for its ability to carry luggage.
Had to have a little laugh, as I am adding a stainless rack to my 76. Why, because I want to travel with luggage and T-tops off....so mine will be a t-top rack for road trips!

I have the T-top carrier holes in my 82. I got tired of trying to find the rack so I will be plugging them before I paint later this year.

The problem with using the luggage carrier for the t-tops is....there really ain't no way to strap them on there without damaging the paint...or having them fly off as you run down the road. Not a good feeling....
The '77 racks have provisions(pins) for using the "T-Top carrier brackets", that will fit the tops, AND strap them down safely. You can get a '77 rack easily, but getting the bracket set-up is next to impossible, without having to get a 2nd mortgage the house.

Mine came without the rack and that was just the way I wanted it. I can get two lawn chairs and a soft cooler in the back with the t-tops off; that's about all I ever need to carry.

Repairing the holes would be a chore but it could be done.
