Vette(s): 1972 conv, 4-speed, 350, 200hp, numbers match, rally wheels, war bonnett yellow w/white top. good condition, nice driver.
I have a 72 convertable. There is a chrome catch/latch in the center just inside the top. Is this for a hard top attachment? I have seen other like years, 71,72, and do not see this on them. The tank sticker shows it came with a black hard top. Are there differences in the top from year to year? Does anyone have one to part with. THANKS

Mine has a latch that releases the deck lid and another one that releases the 2 pins that go through the deck lid from the top.

Post a pic.  I think you are referring to a ferrule on the deck lid and not a latch.  If it is a ferrule, some of the removable hardtops had a bracket along the bottom and used the ferrule with a thumb nut as an addtional mounting point.  Not all cars have the ferrule in the decklid and not all hardtops have the mount.

I'm thinking the same thing about the mount/ferrule for the center bolt of the hardtop. Some got it, some don't, which means also that some decklids had the hole/ferrule, some didn't.
I believe there is a U-shaped bracket that fits over the bolt/stud(on the hardtop) from the bottom(under the decklid), and then the nut tightens up on that to hold the center of the hardtop down snug against the decklid.

Hardtops in '68 did not have chrome protectors in the rear corners, and used smaller hold down studs, but can be used on a later car.  All 69-75 hardtops are interchangeable.

We have a 69-75 top in stock that does not have the center stud.  It has a black vinyl top.  Call or PM if you are interested.
