ok, i had again a bit fun..
drove my vette home one day to stay outside for the night ... in freezing temperatures , must have been the first time in my knowledge... No problem... till i started engine and.. oeps.. a mirror glass felt of..
Silicone holding it on 4 spots was no more sticking... drove at work , closing door
... oeps, second one ... bang !

Now , as i was already disappointed by the vibrating chrome mirrors ( very weak mounting with 2 "wood" screws..
) , and in love with the later model "race" type... i decided to buy 2 of those ... yep.
Lucky , my dealer had a pair "second hand" ... 250 euro
, one black , one white , ever been yellow .....so i sanded them, painted my "Cortez" silver .....
BUT... install... whoehoe...after finding out how to remove the holding clip on the window turners ...
... yep, bolt holes don't match and the new ones are with sturdy 1/4" thread ... doors have a closed steel frame above ....
I drilled new holes as much to the front ( so the old holes are still covered by the mirrors plastic base ) ... almost horizontal so i could reach with the nuts without demounting the hole interior stuff as window etc....
I made 2 new pairs of threads , now bended in a angle so mirror and my drilling matched. It worked
and i like the looks !

Oh, yes... drivers side has a remote install with 3 cables... got from my dealer even the base-plate to mount in the door for the joystick...

THAT i didn't see happening...to much work for just that joysticky...what i've done : i cut the 3 cables at the mirror back , put 3 little springs on them , pretension and clamps on the cables...so now this one is to install as the passenger side .. and it works just fine !

All by all i love the new look !!! ( even if i made a mistake against building year...
)
So now i have a 70 with the 77 alu wheels and mirrors...
... and again a week evenings alot of fun !!!!

Hang on to those OEM mirrors Norbert. They fetch a pretty good Euro here. I would bet that to be even greater in your beautiful country.

pics for the maniacs...

here you see the new threads trough the frame above in door , just enough space for a nut to the window....
now that i like

perhaps silly fore those of you custom to those later types , but i find those race type mirrors so much more "matching" to the car lines then the original chrome ones... which are more elephant-ears to me
.. and rather weak mounting...

i enjoy again alot more my car !
