Topic: Removing Chrome on Header on windshield
in Forum: C3 Body

Has anyone removed the chrome trim that sits on top of the windshield header . It's a convertible '73. It has leaked I guess for a while. I am having the windshield removed to do it. I have all the chrome off and all the screws out. It seems loose with the exception of the 2 chrome ends with the holes for recvg the top. Is it usually sealed underneath and maybe thats why it is stubborn. I want to repair any rust... It seems to be minimal but I'm not sure until I get the top chrome off.. Also is the dash relatively easy to get off... any major tricks to that... hidden screws etc?
Any help greatefully accepted/appreciated

I had to take the center gage panel out to get to a screw underneath the dash holding it on, and there are a couple clips on the forward edge of the dashpad that slip over the frame. I also took off the passenger lower dash to fix the "astro ventilation" one of the plastic screw tabs on the frame of that vent was broken. Those round ball vents just pulled straight out.. I guess the felt and pressure holds them in. Had to replace one of the center vents for the A/C too. The more I look the more little (relatively cheap) things I see need fixing...
Thanks for the help

I also found two screws on the chrome end sections of the header chrome. They were visible after removing the sealer around the windshield. That was the only extrascrews holding it on. There was no sealer under mine. Of course now it looks like I will have to repalce the header as the PO had let it go too long
. I can buy the header but will need to have it welded on. The two outside frames are OK. It is just the middle bottom part where the water layed in the header. Now no place to seal the windshield. Fortunately the glass man could save the windshield
. Now the big job is ahead.
Anyone ever have there header replaced, or repaired?
