Hello,
I was considering removing the rocker panels on my 82 to clean/paint them. Looks like they are just held on by some phillips screws. There is some rust on the fasteners behind the panels. Should I mess with them, or leave well enough alone?
Thanks

Just did my rocker 3 weeks ago.
you will have to cut the phillips screws, or I have a damaged screw remover that I purchase at a tools store it is like a drill bit one size that burnish and the other side is for removing the screw, you just put it to your electric drill and put it in reverse and it screw the screws out some may brake like mind did I took my dremel tools to cut flush to the metal plate and drill a new hole and after sanding and panting the rock panel just put it back with new screws.also I painted the side frame.

I took mine off my 78 last and repainted them no problem ,just spray a lot of WD-40 or whatever you use on the back of those fasteners and let them soak for a while.b-4 you try to brake them loose with the screw driver, set the screw driver in the slot and give it a few good light hits with a hammer, just enough to break the crud loose in the fasteners, spray them one more timethen start working them out easy, use new stainless screws when you put them back on ,I used a little black paint to cover the screw heads when I was done you cant even see where they are

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the advice, I had no trouble removing my rocker panels. I wirebrushed the fastener threads with a small wire brush and then sprayed with WD-40. After letting the oil soak for a while, I used a long phillips head screwdriver with a sharp tip and off came the rocker panels.
Thanks again,
Tom
