I had a quote for $7000 to start for my 73 from a shop here that does car restorations. I too feel that spending that much on a car that is going to be driven a lot more then it is going to be shown is a bit much. I had a friend that block sanded his car and had Macco paint it for $1200 and he is happy with it. It looks good from 5 feet. His car only had one paint job so it wasn't piled on with paint. My car was stripped and repainted in 1985 before I owned it. They did a crappy job leaving bad surface areas all over it. It has quite a few areas that the paint has fadded on and a lot of stone chips so i will have to get it painted sooner or later. I say it is still a good 10 footer.

It does not still shine. That is why I want to repaint it.
It is really dull and faded on the top surfaces and blotchy. The sides are shiny but full of stone chips. It used to be garaged off a dirt road.
Of course, no matter what the cost of the job, I'd still have to come up with the money. And of course, I don't have $3500, let alone $7000!
