This spring one of the things that I plan to do is replace all of the old weather stripping on my 77 Vette. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to make this job go easy. Or know first hand of problems that I might encounter and how to get around them. I have already bought the removal weather stripping tools from one of the Corvette Venders.

Thanx!

Get you a can of 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner, pt. # 051135-08984, if you haven't already. It will help loosen/soften/remove the old weatherstrip glue.
Make sure you clean the new weatherstripping of the release agent they use to keep it from sticking to the molds...de-natured alcohol works well for this, as will brake cleaner. If the new stuff isn't cleaned, the adhesive won't stick very well.
Plan on your windows not going up all the way(easily) for a while.
Take your time, pay attention to how the pieces come off, do one side at a time, so you'll have something to compare with, and it should go well.

Joel covered it all except one tiny tip.  Get a couple of rolls of masking tape in advance.  Sometimes the weatherstrip does not want to stay exactly in place while the adhesive dries, so you tape it in place for a couple hours.

As soon as the glue is dry, you can rub or spray silicone on the surfaces where things rub.

Yep.  That stuff works and will not eat paint.   Patience, Grasshopper.  Let it work and do it's thing.   AIM also helps since the AIM shows weatherstrip installation.  Knowing how it installs helps when removing the old stuff.

How 'bout recommendations on the BEST weatherstripping available??  Some is softer and more forgiving than others.

What experience have you guys had?

All of the replacement weatherstripping on my '68 came from ZIP Products.  Unless I miss my guess, ZIP uses an outside provider for weatherstripping (possibly Corvette Rubber).  The quality and fit were good.

I went today to my local Napa store to pick up the 3M products to do my weather stripping job and was told that 3M no longer makes the Release Agent. The Napa guy told me that the General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner is to be used for that purpose instead.

Just a heads up.....
