Started to replace the body mounts today on a 82. I have stripped the rear cage on one side and have all the others loose. The nut is turning inside the cage. The cage is not loose. Feel I got lucky on all the others.

How do you replace the cage on the inside on the rear mount? The bolt is almost all the way out before it stripped. Is there a way to hold it until I can get the bolt completely off?
Do I need to take anything else loose before I lift the body. I have seen on other sites that people are removing all kinds of things and others are not. Not actually sure what needs to be taken off or loosened.

OK - solved the issue on the broken cage by just cutting it out and cutting the bolt off. Jacked the car up and replaced the passenger side today. Only thing I am not sure about is when I went to let the car back down on the mounts, #3 hit long before the others did. I replaced all the shims in the same location just as they came out. All the other mounts (#1, 2 & 4 Pass side) only had one shim. #3 had 5 shims on it. Does this seem right and should I remove one or two to get it to hit all the mounts the same?
On the driver side, I tried to jack it up but could not go high enough to get #2 & #3 out from under the body. I have not taken anything else loose so I might be missing something on this side that does not let it go up further (steering possibly). Anything that I should take loose?
Also on the driver side, the shims are the same situation as the passenger. There are quite a few more at #3 than at the other locations.

You may need to disconnect the steering "rag joint" to raise the body up enough on that side.
I would suggest replacing all the shims exactly as they were. The body flexes, so just because one mount hits before the others is not a sign of a problem.
