Anyone ever repalce the windshield and the chrome trim on top of the header. I have mine out and there was nothing underneath the chrome trim. I assume the seal is made along the front edge of the header and the chrome trim on top. I hve heard someone said there was "mastic" under the chrome trim, no sign of it on mine. Of course mine was in bad shape, leaking  real bad, but it had rusted thru the frame .... any hints would be appreciated as I am putting the windshield in this weekend.

I just had mine replaced! Yes along the top is a rolled gasket like material (mastic material).. do not remove it, and if you don't have one you'll need to get it. Other than keeping water out, it also acts as a cushion for the top of the windshield.   The top window trim has about 12 little tabs (going from memory), each of these tabs go above this gasket and into slots along the top. Now having a convertible, yours may be slightly different then my t-top.   Good Luck!

There was some remnant of the mastic on the header (not much). It was hard as a rock. The guy taking the winshield out had some choice words.
I have new clips for the top that retain the chrome strip at the top of the windshield. They are screwed into the header which I have repaired/replaced. I went on the site Jim posted about and there was some good info on there (thanks Jim) most  reference  3M strip calk. Think that is what I will use.  Now to find it...
hope to have it ready for the windshield this weekend.. getting close to April... ready to drive it now... and not lave a lap full of water... not sure what else I will find.. oh well .. gotta love it!

Hey I need new windshiel too. The idiot that owed my 71 before me let the passanger side wiper put a huge gouge in it. If you don't mind me asking, What sort of price are we looking at? I have restored the entire interior and plan on having her painted. I will do the windshield at that time. Terry

Cruzn,

Did you have to replace the windshield because it was broken, or did you damage it while removing the trim ? You also mentioned the frame was shot, how was that repaired, and was the repairs included in the price you quoted ?

Thanks

Leaked like a sieve when I washed it... and had a prety good scratch in drivers side. Is was not original either... the frame had some rust thru on the edge of the header where the windshield fits. I had to do some welding and body work but did not have to replace the whole header.  I don't think the PO sealed the Chrome trim properly after installing the windshield. I thought he would break it taking it out but he didn't. So now I have a "used" spare..
