Topic: Replacing windshield
in Forum: C3 Body
I have been looking for a replacement for my "beast". Dated doesn't matter. The e-hay price might be good but don't foreget to include shipping. In the case mentioned ,$60.00 plus,. I called a local windsheild place, if not dated and a house call, $298.00, that was over the phone. I ask about the "black stickey stuff", it is/was a standard sealer. Just my 2 two cents

2Cruzn, you can get the 'cauk' at any automotive paint supply store. I bought a whole roll of it when I had my '74 painted. Be sure whoever reinstalls the windershield use a urethane sealer,( not silicon) as it will not hold water around the glass, which is what causes the rust on the w/s frame. The 3M part # for the 5/16" 'Ribbon Sealer' is: # 051135 08611. It is called 'Windo-Weld', and comes with little placement 'blocks' to space the glass around the frame. Remember, the w/s is a stressed part of the frame, so it really needs to be installed with the right stuff, so it will strenghten the whole assy.

Can anyone give me an idea of the cost to repair a rusted WS frame, and how difficult would it be. Most likely I'll have to have someone else do the job.
Unfortunately, I 've had some pretty bad luck picking a good and honest shop. I have an excellent mechanic, but he doesn't do body work.

Cruzn,
Thanks for the info, I don't even know if I have a problem, but I'm sure that I must have some sort of rust in the frame. At least it sounds like I can get parts for it if needed. This is way beyond my capabilities. I'll have to find someone to do it for me

You can find out quick by taking the trim off around the inside of the winshield especially the top piece around the miorror.... If you have had rust falling in your lap.. that is a sure sign of a problem.
Good luck.. and hopefully not as bad as you think...
