I was reading about rust problems in the bird cage and was wondering if anyone has any stories they'd share. What they found and what they did about it?  Anybody done a full replacement of the cage? I realize different years are a very different in design but can you just pull the window trim off for example??

Over on "another forum", I saw some frightening pictures that are going to force me to look my car over good once I get it back....

 Kinda scary....

I had to replace the bottom rocker channels on my 73:

I talked to a place a few years ago when I had to replace the windshield about rust in the frame. After the glass was out they said it was in real good shape, just a little surface rust that was sanded and repainted. He said that in the past he had some that were bad enough that they cut it off and had a body shop weld a new frame in.

Hey while we are on the subject  if you need to replace your pillars on a convertible (I guess thats where the bird cage is) where would you find the info on the angle and stuff like that?

Glenn, I'm not sure I understand your question. Info on angle? My thoughts would be make a jig before it's cut apart and use the jig to make sure the new parts fit up the same as original. Here is a place that has most, if not all the birdcage repair parts:

Vette(s): I own a 1974 L48 white/red automatic, a 1976 daily driver L82 4 speed and a 1979 L48 automatic.

I'm in the process of replacing the rocker channels and the windsheild header and the 2 corners. Also on the body I have to change the header bar that the headlights attach to and all of the seat belt attachment supports on a 1974 vette. I probally should have scrap it and parted it out but I'm to far into it to stop.

I have some pictures on my web site of the frame but haven't had the time to upload any new ones of the body.
