I installed shaved doors (solenoids) on my 1980 Daytona Widebody mainly because I had to totally remove the original skins and wasn't sure if the original door fixtures would fit properly over the wider door profile.
Just curious if anyone has ever done a shaved door install on their vette or other vehicle and have ideas on a mechanical backup entry system.
I was thinking of running a cable from the backside of the front fenderwell into the door. Inside the door it could be connected to the latch release at a variety of places.
I also thought of a backup battery system, but that still is reliant on a battery and not a basic "can't fail" mechanical solution.
Thoughts?

Basic, "can't fail" solution? Certainly! Easy peasy, and this one never fails to allow access to the vehicle, battery power or not.....

Most electric doors I've ever seem always had a cable operated over-ride, pretty much like you are thinking of doing. The only problem is if the door is locked....you may need two separate cables...one to unlock, and one to open.

All of the C6 cars have solenoid operated door mechanisms with a convoluted cable backup. I've seen several that mount aux battery terminals in the nose of the car so it can be "jumped" to provide power to operate the door mechs. I'd suggest something like that. Put each door on a different fuse; the odds of them both failing so that you couldn't open the car are pretty remote. (I'm assuming your inside door handles still work?)

Thanks for the ideas(even the hammer) and comments.
I disconnected all the locks and the manual levers do work on the inside, so I think a manual cable is going to be the way to go. Just have to figure out where to drill the hole(s).
I didn't know the C6 was all solenoid based and was experiencing "lock out" issues. Looks like I may have to take a look at one of their forums.
