I could use all the suggestions you all can provide. On my 77 there is a very boring opening behind the front wheels on each side.Earlier cars had a little bit of grill work there.I want to do some type of "grill work " because this body style needs some zip w/out getting tacky! HELP

Are you thinking grill like on my '82. It's just black plastic. Might be the right size for your opening. They are held on with a few screws.

The openings are a different size, and shape, Dave.
I don't know that I've ever seen anything other than the factory vent on the '73-'80 cars, as far as custom stuff... other than some paint work, like flames, or water shooting out of the vent...

Boring?  It's factory stock for the 73-79 cars.  Since it vents warm air out of the engine compartment, my advice would be not to fill it.

Put a pin stripe around it like the '78 SA cars.

You might try a suttle  little flame like I have on my 77.  It's not large and gaudy, but it does gives the vent it's own personnality .

I wondered about it also. and when the fella painted mine he added the flame just to see what it would look like

It's still there three years and running strong.

Hey those vents also serve to let the air underneath the car escape. I read somewhere when they designed the early sharks they had a problem with air preasure building up underneath the car lifting the off the road. Vett disign shape is very much like a airfoil (wing of airplane) with a high and low side presure. Engineers found that that adding the openings released the air presure and made the car hug the road. The faster you go the lower the car rides. Just FYI I read to much sometimes, it  makes sence to me anyway. Thanks

Depending on the color, ghost flames would look sharp.
