I bought a 78 silver anniversary vette last year and in the process of restoring. It has a spoiler on the back (like the pace car) and holes on the front where the front spoiler would mount. I am the third owner. Previous owner told me that the original owner ordered the car with the front and rear spoiler on it as an option. Nowhere can I find that this was an option, only on the black/silver pace car. Any info would be helpful, not sure if I should leave then off or order new ones and remount. Just wondering if anyone knows if this was an option in 1978.

No, it was not a factory installed option in 78, BUT, it was available over the counter and possibly dealer installed.

In 79 the Pace Car style spoilers were available from the factory as option 'D80'.
Look at he wheel opening edge where the front spoiler mounts and see if you have 2 mounting holes up high, couple inches apart. The 79 spoiler used an additional exposed mounting screw at the very end of the fender piece as seen in the pic while the 78 Pace Car spoilers just used a single hidden stud. If yours has the 2 holes you had a 79 spoiler installed.

Mikes exactly right, if the dealer added these spoilers it won't show anything unless you have an old reciept. The spoilers were part of the Pace ar package only in 78. You can order the front spoiler from any one of our sponsors for probably less then what it will cost you to have it painted, installs very simple, especially if the mounting holes are already there

The car might have had the spoiler(s) installed by the dealer for the original owner before delivery. This might be construed by some as being "original"....but it ain't.
I'd go ahead and get the front spoiler and install it, since the mounting holes are already there. You can always go back at a later date, and return it to original if you want, but that involves some filling of the holes, and paint.

thanks for the replies, I have decided to put the spoilers back on. I like the look and it kind of makes it look different than most Anniversary vettes I have seen. Great site with quick response from knowledgeable members. Definitely a great site.
