What would be the best grit sandpaper to prep stainless steel windshield and t-top trim pieces for painting? I will be using rattle can Trim Black and want to be sure the paint sticks to a good surface, but don't want to over due it where scratches show through the paint.
On the 82, all trim was painted black and Trim Black seems to be the perfect match.
I've tested 400 grit wet/dry but not sure that is enough??
Thanks!

Phil have you tried any "Scotch Brite" ? I think the maroon color would be perfect and would conform down into the curves a bit better. Make sure you get a real good prep cleaner to use before painting the black. Plus the pad will be much better on the carpiltunnel.

I like the Scotch brite..the 400 grit paper probably got all the dirt and grime off but isn't enough to truly scuff the surface..I would use a good primer also with thin coats maybe 2 sanding the first coat with the 400 grit paper..it won't go to waste! I would paint both sides also so it doesn't show any edges..should look great though..have fun and take your time!

I always use just Scotch Brite. Most trim paint is made to not need primer. If you do prime use a very light coat of black primer.
