Backed the 72 out and in doing so heard a fairly load bing/bang from the driver's side front wheel area.
Continued out of garage . Found a few drops and squirt
of what looked, smelled and felt like power steering fluid.
Found on the floor a "cap" this cap is about 1/2 inch in diameter - closed "caped" and one end -open at the other - about 1/2 in lenght - approximately 1/8 inch from open end is a ridge
Appears "cap " would tap/fit into a tube upto the ridge "
Since I have a dislocated sholder healing I cant crawl under the car
Anyone have any idea what poped out - where it belongs and any thing else that would help
Thanks
Big Al

That sounds like the adjuster screw cover on the control valve. It faces the left front wheel, and normally the cap only keeps dust and grime out, not intended to seal against fluid pressure. You probably need to rebuild or replace the control valve, not a real major job but could be a little rough in your present condition. I hope you feel better real soon.

Al,
I agree to many leaks. I rebuilt the intire steering system in my 75, after a short while it started leaking again! So I went with the "Staroid System rack & pinion" as there isn't very much left arriginal on the car anyway. Man am I ever glad I did. I have 17"x8" tires and rims and the car handles great. What a huge dif. and it only took a Saturday to do start to finish doing all the work by myself. Excluding the allinment of coures.
It was money well spent. Good Luck and hope this helps. |cheers|
