I bought my Vette in 1977, original owner, and I plan to keep it as close to stock as possible. With 69,000 miles on it and being 27 years old, things go, but so far I have almost (changed the radio and clock) kept it 100% original. Now if I could only figure how to display a picture of my vette on this website.... help!, thanks!!Bill

Vette(s): 1975 T-Tops,Lite Custom work,Many engine mod. 700R4 trans. body is shaved,17" wheels bf goodrich g-force tires,heavy sway bars front&rear rack&pinion steering,550 slolom springs with gas shocks.
My corvette is a 1975 and when I got it it was stock and what a dog. I started rebuilding it from the ground up and went a little nuts. Three years later and a few dollers this thing is done. It don't take any back seat to any other vett's on the road. Not only buy looking great but man this thing really runs the best part of all my bragging this that it gets 20+MPG. We have alot of fun with it. So if you have a vette make it your own and pesonalize it. BUT MOST OF ALL DRIVE THE THING AND INJOY IT!!!!!!!

My feelings exactly. I appreciate the painstaking efforts that go into the trailer queens. They are magnificent cars. But, I've wanted a 68-72 Vette far too long to just LOOK at it.
With over 130,000 miles on it (estimated), mine is still mostly original. But the engine isn't - so I may well go wild under the hood.


Since I like the originals AND the customs, I should probably buy another one to have both! Maybe THAT'S the answer.

Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.
Judging from the way the engine bay looked when I bought my Pride and Joy, it was original...at least the block numbers match what it is supposed to have. Way too many things to list here have been fixed or upgraded since purchase but those closest to my heart were the new Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock carburetor, and Dynomax headers. She's a long way from being "cherry", but she's mine. The interior is the next thing to get a major overhaul!
While I'm not a huge fan of trying to improve on near perfection, I do like the look of some body mods, and yours would have to be right up there! It looks good!

keeping it stock or going custom is really what do you want personally out of the car? Do you want to be able to sell it fopr a better price in the future? Then go stock and stay as original as you can. But if you just want to enjoy driving it, then do it your way with whatever you see the best for performanance and looks. there are many posts here to help you with both. It is expensive to get it back to stock if a lot has been changed too.

My '81 was highly neglected over it's life. So for it's rebirth over the past 5 years, I opted to give it the power of the "Old School" vettes of the sixty's. Keep the stock appearance, and keep the luxury items that were in the last few years of the C3's. The best of all worlds in mine.
BTW- May 15th, she's finally going in for her long over due makeover at the paint shop.

All my effort is going under the hood. That is after I got a new paint job. The only non stock thing done to the body is I glassed over the power antenna hole and run an internal radio antenna. gives the flow of the body one less interruption.

First off, i want to thank Norsky for the info, i never looked at the Mako Shark forum, now i will be regularly there.
But, to clear up a seeming misunderstanding, myself, i love the custom, its why i bought the car (thank you Vettedreams79 for the compliment). But, i have gotten some lip from some Vette owners that i spoke with over the mods (purists!). I was just curious as to how many of the members here do any mods outside of power. I have to admit, it sure is nice to have a place where both are openly accepted without valueing one over the other.

It doesn't matter really which way you go stock or custom,I'm keeping my 78 the way I got it,pretty much stock the numbers match,it has a c.d. player in it,that the last owner put in it,and a rear fiber glass spring other than that,the same way she was when she came way out of the plant.what is cool is the looks you get when you take it out,everybody likes to see them and drool,all the waves and looks you get ,is worth it
