Vette(s): 1977 L-82 originally white/buckskin interior. Currently undergoing a frame-off resto. and modifications.YEEHAW!!!
Captain Lee's "Auto Spray Strip". Be careful, read the directions three times, have lots of water nearby, wear thick-assed chemical resistant gloves, and for God's sakes, don't wear shorts when you do this.
It's messy, stinks, it'll overspray like crazy, but you'll see the paint slide off of that hood, right down to the gelcoat.
Other than that, it's a fun job.
I just finished stripping my entire vette of her black lacquer. I did one panel at a time, lost motivation for about a month, and did another one. A year later, she's nekkid. YAHOO!!! No body work, or crash damage. That's rare.

GOOD LUCK!!!! |saluteflag|

Gribble's pretty much right on, I've tried many kinds of strippers and for the most part, they work the same. Do not do it in direct sunlight, it will harden before it starts to work. Another trick is to lay some thin plastic sheeting on the hood after you wet it out, this will keep the stripper working longer, it won't dry out as fast. Do be very careful, some strippers, if left on too long can actually start to attck the 'glass! Hot soapy water should neutralize most of them, but to repeat Gribble, READ THE DIRECTIONS! GOOD LUCK!

I know you can find fiberglass remover in almost all the Corvette catalogs like Ecklers. Also at a boat shop. Let us all know what you decide to use and how it works. |cheers|

Vette(s): 1975 Corvette Convertible I am second owner of the car. It has 52,000 original miles on it.I am in the process of painting it. I see why they want so much for a paint job! Hope it comes out good! This is my first fiberglass paint job. Prep and more Prep!
The safest way to strip paint off of fiberglass is using the razor blade method. It is the cheapest way to remove paint. $7.00 for a box of 100 single edge razor blades. I am in the process of removing all paint from my 75 convertible.

meg, have you used that stuff on fiberglass? I never have, but it's fantastic on aluminum & magnesium... hence the "aircraft". Is it ok on plastic/fiberglass?
