They don't actually "latch" to the rack. The brackets sort of act as the "T" of the roof so that the set pins on each rack are held in place. There's a rubber strap that goes over them that holds them in place.
P.S. I have a set of original GM brackets I think I'm going to have to sell. They won't fit on my rack because I have the 6 bar rack (no set holes/pins for the brackets). If there's any interest... ?

One of our sponsors makes the brackets to attach the T-tops to the luggage rack. Someone help me here...I'm sorry but I can't remember the name of Alex's company that's based in Colorado. I'm sorry Alex...

I was given advice once from a guy who "lost" a set of tops on the interstate more than 20 years ago. "Get a cloth-lined leather cover for each top & store them behind your seat" he told me. I've taken that advice from the day I bought the vette -- never even tried to strap them on the rack.

Hello All,
Thanks for the plug for Vette Specialties. I do want to address the last post by "fun71".
The brackets, when installed properly, hold the tops securely to the rack. I have had the car at speeds far exceeding any legal speed limit, panic stopped, hard autocross type cornering, and hard bumps. Never have the tops moved. Our hook design will hold the top in place even without the strap being tight. I often demonstrate this at shows that we participate in as a vendor.
In fact, the only damage my tops have ever sustained was from putting them in a top bag and setting them behind the seats!
The brackets are a great way to carry your tops and keep the room behind the seats for items you want to keep out of the weather.

Adam,
Thanks! I knew something wasn't kosher, but with class fast approaching I figured that the intent of the message would be conveyed even if it didn't work properly!
