Mine had the holes in it from the factory. I did get new inserts when I bought the rack and gave them to my paint guy to put in as my originals had faded.
I have had to buff the T-Tops as well as the 3ea marks on the outboard L&R and the 4 marks center. Mine have been on the rack @ 85+mph from OKC to Bowling Green and back and stayed on. The first time you look in the rear view mirror and they are moving, you will pull over and check them, once you have shoveled out the interior

I learned a trick @ Hot Springs. Go to the local auto parts store or Wallyworld (ask for the checker in line 13 if in Hot Springs...Ask 71Shark or Fireboss) and get you 8 of the black (is there any other color for a vette?) shoulder pads that are fleece. Put 2 on each of the straps (2 per side). This keeps the rub from occurring.
I enjoy mine. If anyone ever gets a set with a black bag and you have a collectors edition, I have the gold bag for them. If I can get my pix downloaded, I think I have a shot from the rear (no pun intended) that shows them on the rack at the car show.
I wouldn't pay as much without the bag and all the goodies. I paid over $300 for my set.
Good Luck to whoever gets it. They come up about 3 to 4 times a year on ebay and I have never seen the AIM sheet.
Tux is right, they are very hard to find in this condition. Shame it has no bag. I would ask the seller if you are interested.

My 80 model has the carrier with black bag...doesn't look like they have been used much. I had to order a copy of the owners manual to figure out how to install the thing. Not sure I feel secure enough to put my tops on this thing and drive down the road yet. Appreciate the comment about looking in the rear view and seeing them move.
It got my attention the first time, and I still spend a good deal of time at speed looking back. It does reduce visibility somewhat, but having all the room back there comes in handy (ask 71Shark). I was able to carry my NASCAR style jack on the HS trip.
Don't overlook the padding on the straps. You'll be pissed when you see 2 strap marks and 2 round marks from the rubber bumpers. The bumper marks rub out easily. The straps are MUCH harder. Especially if you go about 1300 miles with them @ 80+mph.

I see the auction ended for $280, did anyone on here win them?

Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
I should have placed a little higher bid but I had to go to Italy last week and did not have Internet connectively while gone. I have the whole in the back and could use the racks just so my 82CE is complete. When I get done restoring it.
If anyone see one come up on ebay again please let the registry know.
