T-Top, window, door seals, etc.

Just got word today the '73 will be delivered to me on Monday (coming from the PNW).   It will be parked in a climate controlled security garge when not on the road, but.   Got a question on caring for the seals, etc. here on the very hot desert (its got all new seals, hoses, belts, etc).   What is the recommended/suggested product to use to help keep top, window, door, etc, etc, etc seals in good condition?

I suggest silicone lube, it doesn't contain harmful oils or solvents, eliminates squeaks, also works on nylon or plastics, made to protect rubber, or go to the chevy dealer and ask them about one of their rubber products.

I use a produce from Napa called Syl Glide. It comes in a blue tube (like toothpaste.) I put a very light coat on all my weatherstripping a couple times a year. This use is listed on the tube. It has a very high melting point and a very low workable temp. point. I think it holds up better than silicone myself.

It also has many different uses too. I actually use it also on brake jobs I do for people. I coat the back of the pads with it. That prevents squealing/squeaking noises, and I coat the slides and caliper pins with it. It's very resistant to water or washing off. (Much better than never seize) Never had a complaint on a brake job since I've been using it.

Varmint, that's a nice '73 there! It looks just like one would back in '73-74, with the custom paint! Sharp! Congrats on it!
There are several products you can use to keep the w/strip in good condition, two of the best have already been mentioned above. GM has the "Sillicon Grease"(that's the name, I swear!), and it comes in 1 ounce, red & white tubes. The "Syl Gel" is good, also. There is also a product called "Krytox", for rubber preservation, but it's pretty much the same as the GM grease, at a much higher price. Use any of the above sparingly, as Sarge says, a couple of times a year, and enjoy the ride!!

Gentlemen, thank you much for all the great info and suggestions.   I used high grade silicone "grease" on O-rings back in the equipment engineering days - might even have a small bottle of it still in the shop some place.   If not I'll check the products out you've all recommended and pick some up.   Very helpful, thanks again.

Thanks also for the comments on the new toy AA.  I was lucky enough to have a long time close friend who only lives 20 miles from the gent I bought the car from, and he really checked it out thoroughly for me and drove it.   He really had to nit pick to find a couple of minor "faults" - said it was easily 98-99% over all, solid as a rock and drives like a dream.   Monday will be a fun day.
