Hey guys and gals.  I was wondering if there was anyone out there who dedided to go outside the box and give their vette a unique paint job (maybe with ghost flames, unique colors, or ???) I don't want to go crazy with airbrush, etc but I'm seriously considering making the car stand out but in a tasteful way by using 2 colors with a 3rd color that breaks them both.  Maybe a two tone with silver/emerald green combo with another color  or silver/burnt orange black or even silver/candy red with a black stripe separating them or another combination.  I like the look of 2 tone but was thinking carrying the lines higher than the factory 'Vette 2 tone style.   Was just wondering if anyone else has something out there that's not your typical paint job.  Just curious, I'm a newbie so please forgive if this topic's been covered already.  Thanks!  George

I wanted something to make mine personal, without the big cost of custom paint or the permanance of air brush, so I went the decal route.

Most people look at it and think it is air brushed.

If I get tired of it, or if the new owner doesn't like it, I peel it off.

Of course, if yours needs a complete paint job, you can do it custom or paint it as original color and then add a decal.

Lots of choices, but it really boils down to what do you want.

Welcome to the forum George-
Every car or truck I have ever owned I have tried to personalize or customize . I really look for something that no other car has that combination. No matter how big or how small.
My car is in the body shop right now. I had it set up for a guy to show me how to ghost flame it but I decided to go with a red and then black stripe. I am shooting for a similar paint job as one I saw in the forum here with different colors.
I bet a two tone paint job on your '81 would look excellent. Just deciding on the colors and style would be fun.
The only person who really matters is yourself, as long as you like the paint scheme or it matches your personality then go for it. If you are painting it to sell then that is another story.

Welcome to the forum for starters.  I agree with Gene and dwright, the car only has to suit YOU.  The two color scheme looks good on many cars and the silver candy red is a killer combination.  You, like many of us here aren't going for ncrs points so its your car, make it YOURS.  I've done some things to mine that are "different" just because I like it, thats the pleasure in these cars.

I say keep it pure..... nothin finer that O.E.M.

Uhhh to bad I could NEVER do that...... I love the silver metallic idea with stripes. It would look great with Yenko, or a Motion style stripe on it. The green would be bad azz depended on your interior.

Metallic silver over candy red would be hot. You could do a flame red stripe separating the two colors. A silver/blue/teal combo would look cool too.
