This post would probably be much better with picture but since im sitting at work right now thats not going to work. I was wondering what the braket was called that is riveted across the nose just between the hood and headlight openings, mine is rusted pretty badly and im going to have to find a replacement.
Ive seen the rivets start to show through the paint on other cars, if that helps any

I did not follow the link...But a sure way to know if it is rusting Badly is looking at the fiberglas between the headlights just in front of the hood....See any BUMPS...????
Anyway the replacement is chaep (can;'t remember what I paid for
the last one but under 50 bucks)...Removing it was NOT a real easy
task...had to take a chisel and cut it free...and had to make my own 2 foot long chisel to be able to hammer comfortabley...
I did NOT rivet the replacements back in...only "glued" them in place...
been more then 15 years since I did the 79...over 10 for the 72 and
almost that long for the 76....
All are doing just fine......I did paint the replacements with semi gloss Rustoleum before installing them.....

no rivets poking through, but I definately no its bad, I have almost all of the hardware stripped off of the body right now and all I have to do to see it is crawl under and look, over half of it is rusted away.

Matt....You will most likely have to remove the hood...which sure makes it much much easier to get to the top of the support....
IF I remember correctly I also had both headlights and supports out of the cars also...
Usually when they rust as bad as you indicate..the rivets will rust and expand..thus show up as small dimples accross the hood..if yours do not show this...grab a beer and celebrate...as the repair is now at least 500
bucks cheaper (no sanding and painting of the exterior...LOL
The long chisel I mad was just a 1/8 inch piece of flat steel 24 inches long ground at the end naturally ... worked fine since I had the hood off
...I may have even had the Radiator out ...its been a while...
