Vette(s): 1968 corvette convertible
Hi,
I have a 1968 Corvette, vin 194678s407679. I have been told that the third digit, (4) is the engine code, but have not been able to find which engine this is supposed to have. Can any experts out there help me out? Thanks in advance!

The first 5 numbers of the VIN indicate whether the car was a coupe or a convertible. 19437 is for coupes ... 19467 is for convertibles. Evidently, your car is a convertible. The letter 'S' stands for St Louis. After the 'S', the number 4 is a standard number that GM put in .... the five numbers after that are the sequence numbers showing what number your car was in the production run. Your car, # 07679, was number seven thousand six hundred and seventy nine. According to the Corvette Black Book, it was built sometime in December 1967. There should be a data plate on the drivers side door jam with additional info as to exact build date (date it passed the body attach point) and paint and interior colors. The tachometer red line starts at different points for different engines. If your tach is original, that may be a good starting point. Hope tis info helps you out.
