Just had New weatherstrips installed. Not happy the windows will not line up right.I know they are new and told should take some time to shink to confourm. But is it normal to have doors, open put windows up,then get out of the car to shut door and window by holding hands on door and window at sametime to shut it to seal proberly to the strips? If I do not do it that way window sticks out funny.I'm afraid to wash car I feel it may leak in water.
I also had new seals put in for glass tops.I don't know if they will leak. They seem to look good. 81 corvette

The problem is not the new weather stripping, the problem is the window regulator and all the hardware that goes with it. The regulator needs to be replaced or restored. There are also guides on the window that may need replacing also. Also the anti rattle cushions may need to be reset, to keep from pushing your windows too far out when you roll them up. The rebuilt regulators are pretty expensive, but they are readily available from just about any corvette parts vendor. i.e. Ecklers Hopes this helps. Jimmie

I have a very similar problem. Last year, 82dukman and I replaced the stripping on my '79. Did the tops and the window jams.
Now water leaks in, especially the right side, when it rains or is washed. Also, if the windows are all the way up, doors shut, they don't want to go down very easily. With doors shut, windows down, they will not go up all the way. I have to open the doors, then put the windows up, then shut the doors.
It is all really annoying! 82dukman and I are planning to look at it again sometime soon. Hopefully we'll find an easy fix, and I'll post a message about it.

You might try to roll the window down just a hair,
maybe two hairs, then try closing the door. The new gaskets are much thicker and this might help as they wear in. The top gaskets will not leak, if installed properly, even though the tops may appear to be sitting uneven, also due to new gasket thickness.
Good luck.

I replaced all the weatherstrips on my doors and windows as part of my interior overhaul. Before, I had problems with the windows not going up all the way. Also the alignment was not correct, the front of the window was higher than the rear. I replaced the cushions and worked for hours getting the alinment of the windows perfect. They go up the correct distance, the come down the correct distance, and all the seals meet correctly. Get your chiltons book out and have a go at it. Be sure to make the adjustments in the order they appear in the book. You will do fine!
Adam, where did you buy your weatherstrip kit? I am going to replace all mine soon as part of my rebuild. Bair's has the best price so far but I don't want to have trouble after I am done. I would like to support the companies that support th C3VR.

The only way to cure your problems with the noew weatherstripping, is to get out your AIM and readjust the windows according to the proceedure that the factory did.
Don't try to short cut this, I worked on them for over 4 hours and never did get it right. With the AIM proceedure, I was done with both of them in less than an hour.
To the he first post, your problem is that you need to lower your stops. the window is just going up to high.

I bought them at some vendor at Carlisle last year. I don't even remember who it was. But, by all means, patronize Bairs! Don't forget to mention C3VR and you'll get a 5-10% discount on the stipping!
Good Luck!
