I just repainted my front and rear urethane bumper. I used PPG Acrylic lacquer Question is i can see some sanding marks in the paint that I would want to rub out by hand. I have tried Turtle wax white polishing compound but it is not very aggresive and doesnt hardly dent the lacquer. Can anyone recommend a compound to use? I will be doing it by hand.
Thanks

You don't want to go to a more agressive compound. That will just make for even more work. After you remove the material you want, then you will need to go to a finer compound to polish and get the shine back. You will be compounding the work for yourself. By hand it's LOTS of work. It would be worth getting a buffer. But if you are not skilled at using it you could do a lot of damage. Pratice on something you don't care about as much.

At most you want a good polishing compund. Rubbing compound is far too abrasive.
I'm sold on the products from Griot's Garage...their Best of Show Wax is the best I've ever used, and I used many before, and thought Mequier's Gold Class was tops before that. Griot's has polishing compunds for hand buffing as well as for machine buffing. Check their web site <www.griotsgarage.com>.
I've heard great things about Zainos products as well, but have never tried it.

One thing to keep in mind also is the ultra fine and micro fine papers. I start with 1000, then 1500 and finish with 2000 grit paper. I also use soapy water when sanding, it really makes the polishing easier!
The first car I buffed, I was a little leary of my skills, so I used a polisher, a little quicker than hand work, the machine doesn't turn as fast as a buffer, so it won't tend to burn.
Now I won't use anything less than a variable speed buffer.
Good luck, just be patient.
