The build sheet from my '68 says it is supposed to have "P01 wheel covers." I am being offered covers from a '69 but the Corvette Black Book says the option code changed from "P01" to "P02" in '69. Usually when GM changes option codes, it's because the equipment changed. Can ANYONE tell me if a show judge can tell the difference? The 68/69 NCRS judging manual treats the 68 & 69 covers in the same sentence on page 33 with no real difference. I'm restoring this car to judging quality and want it to be RIGHT! Don't quote me on this, but I think the difference is in the "dish" of the covers. I think the '69 covers were a bit shallower, due to the rims being wider. There may also be a slight difference in the lettering on the center caps. If there is any difference in the covers at all, an NCRS judge will be able to tell...

My '69 has the PO2 wheel covers. They aren't shallow as far as I can tell...I bang my shins into them regularly.
They're heavy and stick way out...the standard Rally wheels are better. The only reason I keep mine is because the car came with them. From what I understand, they're essentially the same wheel cover the Caprice came with, other than the added center portion with the Corvette crossed flags.
At Carlisle this past August, a vendor had a set of NOS PO2 wheel covers...he wanted $1800! A different vendor had a set of restored wheel covers...he wanted $800!
I found a good set of PO2 covers on Ebay to keep as spares in case any original ones on the car get damaged. I paid less than $100 for a very good plus condition set.
If you want a set of concours quality wheel covers, be prepared to pay for them. For excellent quality covers, I think you can find them reasonably. Just be patient.

The PO2 covers do stick out quite a bit...I always thought that looked kinda goofy.
What I was suggesting, tho, was the '69 covers were just a tad shorter, overall, than the '68 covers. I think, if my suspicion is correct, you could lay them side by side, and see a difference in the overall height. But...I do not know this for a fact.

I e-mailed ChuckBerge@Comcast.net who is listed as the NCRS 68-72 Team Leader but he hasn't answered my Thursday night e-mail yet... I've tried unsuccessfully to log into the NCRS Technical Discussion board but for the LIFE of me can't figure out HOW to navigate the web pages...
Dave,

It is my understanding that Chuck doesn't answer many e-mails, but he can be reached by phone.
I have to reach out to him myself on a seperate matter.
I'll send you his # in a PM.

Yeah, a lot of the Team Leaders prefer to talk on da phone. You should realize, tho, that most of them may be traveling to/from a regional meet a lot of times, so they may be out of pocket for a few days.
The Tech Disc. board only has one page...for everything! It is not segregated into different sections(Solid Axle, Sharks, etc.)
I can post a question for you...
Boy...don't I feel silly now!!
I see you have already posted a question there, Dave! Oh-well...now there are two of them!!!
But I see Dick said aboot the same thing I did earlier, that you can see the difference if you have them side by side.
