Well, I lowered the power window on my 79 today, and when I went to roll it back up it made it about 3/4 of the way and started clanking real bad and stopped. It rolled back down but when rolling back up stops at the same place. The window motor is still going but the window stops. I can pull it up by hand and then it will work up/down, but wont make it down past 3/4 of the way up.
basically, 3/4 of the way up from bottom i think the teeth are screwed on the regulator. I took off the inside panel but it looks like you can't access anything from inside the door, or if you can I have no idea how.
Any suggestions or tips on how to work on this? Do I have to have the door panel removed by a body shop or something?
Thanks
-Josh

You just need to grow an extra elbow! It is not easy, but you remove the regulator/motor assembly through the opening in the door. As you take the motor off, remember the spring tension. There is a place to put a bolt.
New regulator assemblies are about $200, or a gear repair kit is about $30.00

Purchase the assembly instruction manual (AIM) for your year. The AIM shows how the door glasses were installed and the associated hardware.
When working with door glasses, be advised they are heavier than they ought to be. You will also find sharp edges around the stamped openings of the door. You could easily lose a finger if that door glass falls while you're working on it. Make sure you prop it up so it won't come down on you unexpectedly.
