Had the windshield repaired today.  Service tech came right out to the house.  Very happy with the repair, it's hardly noticeable if you don't know where to look.  Only $63; plus, if the repair fails down the line, they will credit that cost toward a replacement windshield.  Really a win-win situation  Smile
Did the tech drill a hole at the end of the crack and then fill with an epoxy?

Did he buff the area to hide the repair?

Yes, the crack started with a small chip, so he drilled that spot out to inject the epoxy.

And the area was cleaned and buffed afterwards.  In a few days, I'm planning on giving the windshield a good polish myself.

Is there a special polish for windshields?

Do you use an orbital polisher or by hand?

I use a product called DP glass restorer applied via random orbital buffer (Porter-Cable), the same polisher I use for paint defects.  There are also several similar products, like Zaino glass polish and Diamondite, that others have recommended.  Then there's always good 'ol cerium oxide.

Thanks. I saw that they also make a product for removing scratches (Diamondite). That's what I need for my glass tops.

For some practice, I polished my mirrored tops over the summer.  The general rule is similar to paint defects -- if you can catch the scratches with a fingernail then they are pretty deep and may not polish out (at least not with a mild abrasive).  Also, pitting and spotting on glass, depending on what caused it and how long it's been there, may be extremely difficult to remove.  Try polishing with a mild abrasive "glass restorer" first and work your way up the scale as needed.  Let me know if you need any other help or info Dave  Cool
