Hey everyone, hope you all are having a little down time with the family this Christmas season.  I need to ask another question.  I can not get my wiper door to stay shut.  I have replaced all the hoses, got the kit from DR. Rebuild.  For a while everything worked fine.  Now my wiper door comes up after the engine has been running for a few minutes.  My headlights work fine, it's just the door.  Since I never had an owners manual, I am not sure how the overide switches under the steering column work, maybe I am screwing that up.

Merry Christmas all,

JR

Check the wiper door actuator and all hose connections. once good connections manage to come loose!!!

Hey JR,

I believe you'll find a vacuum leak in the door system is the trouble. I was trying to fix why mine moves up then down only on start up, I had replaced all the nasty rusted vac switches and hoses prior to this problem. Some of the repo parts are junk.

If the vacuum source is removed from the vacuum switch ( small hose by itself - this is what makes the thing move ) located on the right inner fender, the door opens I think. With vacuum applied from the long and winding path through the electrical switch relay thing buried behind the tach, under steering column bypass switch, then the safety switch under the wiper arm, the door stays closed.....whewww.

So, to test the system, pull the small hose on & off the vac relay, the door should open & close. If not, the vac motor ( canister on the firewall) circuit is the problem.

BTW, the wiper bypass works the same as the lights, pull down - the thing should open.

Bruce thanks, I did as you said and I think the problem is the small switch located by the tach.  For now I have the hose off so that the door stays closed.  My wiper motor is dead and I am waiting to purchase a rebuild, sometime in the spring, for now I don't drive in the rain anyway.  Again thanks and Merry Christmas.
