Morning,

On my 76 I want to clean up the wipers, and where the wiper bolts to the car it looks like there are seals or something.  I have searched and cant find anything, are they actually called wiper seals?

Question
Wiper motor, wiper arms, wiper blades?Question
Where the actual wiper arms fit onto the transmission(yep...that's what it's called), there's nothing. Where the wiper transmissions bolt thru the body/cowl, there may be some sort of sealer. They used an asphalt-based goo from the factory to seal the cowl area. Where the wiper motor attaches to the cowl are some rubber mounts.
Don't know of any actual "seals" tho...but then again...where the motor shaft fits thru the cowl there may be a seal....to tell the truth, I've never even thought about it, nor do I remember actually seeing one there, but....there certainly may be one.

There is a backing plate on the inside/ underneath of the dash that helps secure the wiper mount. When I re-installed mine, there was no seal or gasket, however I used some atv sealant before I placed it back on, & also used some body caulking around the perimeter of it just as an extra precaution.  p.s. unless you good at being in 2 places at once, or you have the windshield out, an extra set of hands would be recommended.

Kind of an afterthought......if it's not some kind of repair, I would be hard pressed to want to take em off just to clean them up. I wonder if you could clean them in place, then just re-seal/caulk the perimeter? IMHO

I had water leaks on mine and I scrapped all the old sealer and gunk the factory installed from anywhere I could in the cowl area and in paricular around the wiper trans, it was all cracked and some missing. I never removed anything other than some hoses that were in the way. Got some professional sealer from Napa store and resealed everything. Quite laborious but it did the trick.

Finally got back to this. How does one get the plates off the cowl. Seems like the screws just don't ever come out. Also, how do you remove the wiper arm from the other plate.... Oh, and what is everyone using to paint that area
