hello all- my 79 has what appears to be stains from god knows what on the nose. apparently, the previous owner of the car might have spilt some sort of liquid on it or smeared some kinda grease into the paint. the entire car is a beautiful survivor, except for those damn spots on the nose! they appear to be actually under the surface of the paint, and no amount of compound, polish or wax would take it off. i dont want to try anymore as im paranoid im gonna start seeing primer! im seriously on the fence about repainting the car, since the rest of the car looks perfect, and if i can save it, all the better. the paint is lacquer, and it has the usual micro cracks youd find on a car of its age. if i could somehow get that crap out of the paint, id be happy as hell- any advice?

Contact Griot's Garage <www.griotsgarage.com> and ask them. If anyone can help, I would think they can. They sell nothing but concours grade care care products.

Let us know what you find out. It would be a big help to all.

ok heres what the say:
i got a response from autobody.com:
Response To #131835: stains in lacquer- orig paint 79 vette

If you're determined to remove the stains try wet sanding with a little 1500 paper in order to cut down the surface a little. You may not be removing enough of the surface to get to the bottom of the stain and the sanding may do the job. However you may also go through the paint before you go through the
stain so then you'll know that you'll need to refinish.

dont know if thats the answer i was looking for, but ill keep this in mind. theres gotta be some kinda cleaner or something that might work
