On a recent post on which is a good wax to use I said I would try the new Turtle Wax "Ice" and let you guys know what I thought. Well I tried Ice & the new Dupont "Teflon" wax.

I read the instructions for Ice, followed them to a T, and I didn't like the results. This wax is very clear, and reminded me of baby oil. First, I had a hard time telling how much wax was where. Then I waited for it to haze, It didn't. I used an orbital Buffer, and 3 clean terry cloth pads and 1 foam finishing pad. I must admit the car that I used it on look fantastic, but it didn't last long, it left an oily residue which was just like when we used baby oil on our vinyl tops (before Armor All ) you had to keep wiping it to keep it looking good. I then used 2 of the soft fiber towels to clean off the residue, we took the car out to a cruise night after 5 hours we noticed the finish looked streaky again. Maybe some one else had, or will have better luck than I did.

As for the Dupont Teflon, I used that on my car using the same Buffer and clean pads. It went on easy came off easy, and left a really nice shine. No swirls or scratches, and it was half the price of Ice ! If any of you have a better experience with Ice let me know what you did. P.S. We waxed both cars in an A/C indoor shop (no heat or sun)

There's a lot of fine wax products out there and I've tried a number of them. I have my favorites like anyone else, but I have concluded that the natural carnauba waxes are still better than the high tech stuff full of synthetics and polymers, etc., whatever hype they use to promote them.

Sometimes the older technology stuff is still superior.

I have been using ICE wax and quick detailer for about 8 weeks. I could not be more pleased with the results! I have waxed my Vette twice in that time period. The second time was today!

The trick I found to get the best results, is to not use too much ICE (too much will be hard to get off, less is more) and to use and fold the supplied micro fiber towel in quarters using one side to start removing the ICE and then use a clean side to finely detail it. Awesome results with no streaking!

Also try it on your chrome. It will jump out at you as never before! I use it on my Cragar SS wheels and OMG they have never looked better! Don't use Ice wax on your glass. It will streak in the rain.

The ICE quik detailer works very well too! I used it yesterday in the hot sun (104 degrees) at a open class car show yesterday (I won 1st place in my class by the way) with great results! You can use Ice quick detailer on your chrome and glass too as a cleaner. It works great! Makes your glass shed rain like RainX!

I always used McGuiars Gold Class wax and Quick detailer in the past and was pleased with the results, but I like Ice better. As an added bonus, ICE melts all of the wax residue that we all have on our Vettes that we can't remove. I mean you put ICE on it and it disappears!

As you can tell I like ICE and would recommend it to anyone!

Well, that's my opinion for what it's worth!

Glad to hear that the wax does a great job. I couldn't imagine Turtle Wax coming out with a product that gave such poor results. I think I now know the mistake I made, Too much wax . I said from the beginning that I couldn't tell how far the wax was spreading, that's the only thing I can think of. Even though I did like the Teflon wax a lot, I'll try using ICE again, but very sparingly.

If it beads up after drying, wipe off the excess beads before buffing! You'll like the results!

Thanks JD, I definately must have used too much wax. Like I stated earlier, I used 3 terry cloth buffing pads, 2 soft fiber towels, a foam finishing pad and I still had residue left.

After trying just about all the top wax's out there, I decided that Zymol is the one I prefer.
But I must be honest, if you follow the instructions that the companies provide on how to use their product, it's hard to tell the difference in shine between quite a few of them. Some are easier to use than others, and some can cost quite a bit, which may or may not be worth it.

Which brings me to this question: How much are you willing to pay for wax ?
I must have a few hundred bucks invested in cleaning/wax products, no I'm not rich, just anal when it comes to shining up the chariot. My latest and last investment was a jar of Zymol's "Carbon" wax $42 Shocked. I just had to try it. I must admit, it a good job but was it worth it ? I'm not sure yet.
I know a guy who has a C-5 and he use's Zymol's $167 wax that he rubs on by bare hand ! But get this, I spoke with a Zymol rep and they have one called Destiny for $487Censored. But it gets better, he stated that they have wax's that go up to (you ready ?) $13,000 CensoredCensoredDead That one is called either Alaris or Solaris. I call it F$#@ ridiculous. For that money I can get a top notch paint job, and pocket 5 grand or more.
So, how must would you pay ?

Personally being your average Tux, $50.00 or less.

As for those willing to pay more I suppose it depends on your personal economics. However I doubt that many individuals on the high end of the spectrum spend much time waxing their personal vehicles.

Good point Tux !
BTW, I just did a little searching, and I believe the Zymol rep lied to me about the $13,000 waxCensored However, if it's any consolation, they do have (for sure) called "Royle Glaze" selling for $7,118.00 Shocked I think it's a life time refill.
But then again if you have a car registered to show at Pebble Beach, 7 grand to those guys is like 7 bucks to us.
