Cookie, our cars are the same color(medium red metallic), and I know what you're saying about some of the products that don't make it shine, or make it look "oily".
I don't actually wax my car. I think I've put wax on it , maybe twice since I've owned it.(10 yrs) I use Mequires stuff exclusively, because I know it works very well on it.(cleaner/polish/wax/detail spray)
The only other product I use is called "California Quick Shine". It is labeled as "polish", but I use it before shows. This stuff makes it SHINE!!!
It can be applied, and left on for days, before buffing it off, and it will NOT damage/hurt the finish. It is a pretty thin liquid, and it applies very easily, and hazes quickly. Then it just wipes off, slicker than greased owl sh..(oops!
I almost said it!
)
I see guys at the autorama shows that will put this stuff on their cars, and then go home...leave it hazed over until the next day, and then buff it off.
One other thing I tried once...ONCE
was "Black Magic" detail spray. I almost NEVER got that nasty crap off my car!
It was like pouring olive oil on it. I had to get the Mequires cleaner to even get the stuff to loosen up enough to polish it off the surface. That is some NASTY crap!! I would imagine it kills antbeds, tho....

Joel,
Your car finish was/is what I've tried to emulate since I first saw it. I don't have the quality paint job your car has, but mine gives a nice shine. I believe our colors are very close, but the lighting in which our posted pictures make them look completely different. As for Meguires, I've used there stuff and they are great. I guess I'm searching for the Holy Grail !
I told you I was anal

I really like the Mequires Tech Wax. It does a really good job for me...easy on and off, plus I like the smell of the stuff

I tried the Mequires NXT generation tech wax a couple weeks ago, I am impressed with it. It does look really good when the job is done. I clayed my car before using the tech wax and was impressed. This is the first time Ive used clay bar , it sure does pick up all the "stuff" imbeded in the paint.

Has anyone tried this stuff? http://www.5starshine.com/spo.html Sounds good. They sure ring their bell enough. Not too cheap, though. Does PTFE have any effect on future repaints, etc?

Someone in my vette club said to use Adam's Polishing Stuff. Has anyone used this stuff?

i love adams' stuff.
i use their quick detailing spray all the time (the smell is fantastic!
)

i also use their "in and out" spray. if you spray it on your black plastic (fan shroud for instance) it really makes it look like new again. great stuff.
I also have a friend who raves about their butter wax. i haven't tried that though. but i am sold on adams products.
just my .02
No one ever tried Zaino?

I bounce around to other "hot flavor of the week" wax/polish/sealants but always come back. I'll try something different and it feels good and looks shinny for a few weeks and after a month or so when I reapply it it's lost it's pop and back I go to Zaino.

There's lots of posts on Zaino. Do a search for Zaino under Car Care. It's pretty popular.
