Topic: Fender Protection
in Forum: C3 Car Care
So for you guys with Show Car paint jobs, or even buffed out really shinny-good paint jobs, what do you do to protect your front fenders while you are working in the engine bay. I am afraid to even lean over the side to add oil. Do those expensive fender mats really work, or is it ok to just get a soft bath towel, blanket, ect. I need to do a bunch of work bringing my mechanicals up to par, and I have an expensive paint job I don't want to ruin.

I use both, a wool blanket then a leather fender cover so your tools don't slide around and Ken has it, make sure the fender is super clean. NO DIRT ..

Hi John nice ride.
All the above are great I use rubber Corvette fender cover, don't have to worry about your tools sliding off. But make sure fenders are dusted first, no dust no problems. Keep them clean and drive them hard. Just the way they like it.
I have a set of Matco tool covers, they are kind of a foam rubber and stay in place pretty good.
Heed the advice of keeping car, covers and clothes clean. Dirt on, under or in any of these will scratch and scuff.

John,
I use "Fender Grippers" .......They are soft foam rubber that stays on the fender. You can place tools on them and it protects the fenders from dropped tools or the dreaded jeans button. For more protection, I use a soft flannel sheet over the grippers.
Oh yeah......They look cool too!
