I've been gone for a while but I just got home from a friends house. He's got a 72 (i think) It's had a very hard life
it's been parked inside of a chicken coop for many many years, I don't understand people. He's going to restore it as much as possible he just fixed the heating ...... it was full of ratts nests. the body doesn't have too many nicks, but the inside needs lots of help. It's a great car for him, the engine runs great, and he's retired this is his new hobbie. Some people need to take care of their vettes it's sad to see them like his was. Thanks for letting me vent . Danielle

Don't be too hard on the previous owner, at least he tried to keep it indoors. I bought a 68 Firebird from my wife's uncle that he was going to restore when he retired. He kept it in an old garage, and was always meticulous about regular maintenance, so he thought he was doing the right thing. Unfortunately, mice got in and made nests in the heater box, rocker panels, and air cleaner, using foam from the headliner as padding. Also, mildew and heavy surface rust covered every surface that wasn't preserved by 20 years of unfiltered cigarette smoke. But it was all there and original. Joe

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
My vette sits in my back garage. Quite a ways from the house, so varmits can possibly get in. So I keep a couple of boxes of Decon sitting around in hidden places. I have never had a mouse or squirrel in my garage, that I know of. those varmits can destroy a good car....

I don't have a garage. ..just the carport on the side of the house. 'Bout the only thing that goes in there (besides Rosie of course) is Birds!!! Actually had a pair of wrens nest behind a dart board that was(and still is )hanging on the wall....*chuckle*....and the noise we made/make working on Rosie didn't seem to bother them atall!!

One thing that works well is leaving some moth balls in the car. Put them in an old stocking and hang from the roof, and put in the back. Also hang some around the undercarriage to keep them away. Joe

Another thing you can put in the car while it is closed up is a product called desicant. It dries the air and helps to prevent mildew and mold. I pulled the cover off mine last fall after a few days of rain and the whole bottom of the convertible top and the seats were covered with mildew....desicant in...mildew gone. It is sold in either bags which can be "cooked" in your oven to dry it back out for re-use or it is available in tubs that have an adjustable opening but when they stop working, ya gotta toss 'em.

I've never heard of desicant. but I'll keep it in mind, just in case I may need it one of these days. I presently run a dehumidifier out there, and it stays pretty dry in there. I've always got a couple of gallons of mineral free water sitting around. That dehumidifier gets about a gallon a day from the garage.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to try that stuff out next time I go away for school. I haven't had a problem with mildew yet, but it would be nice to have something in the car while it is covered up for 3-4 months at a time. Where can you find it at?

Am I the only one that noticed that Danielle has not contributed to this thread since she started it? And she hasn't be here since 5/29.
Someone go find her! Maybe she's lost!
