Vette(s): '78 Silver Anniversary
Just acquired 78 with stock wheels which are painted and have outer trim chrome rims and center logo cap.  I'd like to dress up the wheels before putting new tires on them.  I've got heavy duty "purple power" cleaner, a couple soft scrub pads, sponges and plenty of time and elbow grease available.  What is the best paint to use?  At a loss of what color to paint them: silver, white, black or ?.  The body is white.

Duplicolor VHT SP186 is sold as a Chevrolet Rally Wheel paint.  I see O'Reilly's has it as do many mailorder merchants.

YES! VHT is the correct brand, and the correct color name is "ARGENT SILVER". Sand blast them and paint with a reputable primer and spray a couple light coats of color. They will really set your car off with the trim rings and top hats. Time consuming but well worth the time.

There are two different Argent Silvers, depending on the year. On earlier cars with steel rims, the Argent Silver paint had a green tint to it. Later wheels were more silver, but still with some green. My preference is for the earlier, greenish color....just looks better, imo. When I refurbished  the rims for my '74 a hunnert years ago, I went to the local paint/body supply place and had them mix up a couple of quarts, using the factory mix chart. Cleaned the rims very well, scuffed them with Scotch-Brite, painted the back sides black with spray bomb, and shot the front sides with a spray gun. They turned out perfect.
