I do know it ain't no pic-a-nic, tho. With the A/C system removed from your car, it may be a wee bit easier. You can bet someone will post an answer to your question.

btw...Welcome to the Shark Tank!!

Slade,
As per my chassis manual, I had to remove the right side of the dash & the center instrument cluster on my '68. Then all of the ductwork & then finally the 4 screws that hold the heater box to the firewall & it will come out in one piece. I can't imagine a '69 being much of a different procedure.
Once the box is out, the heater core is held to the inside of the box with 2 straps, so you have to dissassemble most of the box. It is easiest to have a new heater core ready to go so that you can keep all of the pieces straight. If not, take plenty of pics & notes.
Make sure that you get a core for an A/C car, they are very different from the non A/C cars. You'll also need some new seals, especially the firewall seal. If possible have the vacuum actuator tested to ensure that it works, It is supposed to close the door that stops hot air from coming through the vents with the A/C on.
If you want to wait until the winter to tackle this, the heater core can be bypassed or the hose that feeds the core can be blocked off.
Good luck.
