While checking with my local auto parts store for a new A/C compresser for my 74, they listed 2 different ones. One has a 5 3/4" pulley on the clutch and the other has a 5" pulley. The 5" is $90.00 and the 5 3/4" is $169.00. My car has the 5 3/4", would going to the 5" (to save some money) cause for any trouble?

Did you find an answer as to the pulley clutch size for your AC? I have the same problem, parts store says not to worry, but change belt size. I figuire that the number of compressions will increase, but not sure how that will effect the system.
Did you pull the vacuum and test yourself, or send it out? Not sure if it is worth the money for manifold gauges, and vacuum pump if this is a one time job. Thoughts

Sorry, no I haven't. I even asked a few people while I was at Carlisle and was never given what I thought was a creditable answer (if memory serves me 3 said NO to the 5" dia and 2 said no problem). This is a project that I have planned for the long New England lay over (I'm replacing the condensor, VIR, compressor, o-rings and hoses) so I really haven't been persueing the answer.

If anybody has any input I'm all ears. I just want to make sure that I will be using the correct parts and that things will not be braking down the road.

Have a friend that has the vacuum pump and gauges, we have used them in the past when I converted my, the kids and the wifes daily drivers. Defintly not worth going out and buying the pump for a 1 time job, I think they are about $150-200 for a half decent one.

If you find any info I would appreciate you sharing, for when I do find out I plan on posting the answers.

I installed my 5" compressor/pulley with a shorter belt, need to pull vacuum, and charge and I should be up and running.
I did see some posts on corvetteforum.com that mentioned using the 5" with no problems. I plan to have mine ready for the Mid America Vet Fest in Illinois in 3 weeks, so I will road trip it then and let you know how it works.
