I know the voices aren't real, but they have some pretty cool ideas...
Many cars did use an idle kicker solenoid. Some did not need them. But the way your idle drops, it would be a good idea, and solve your problem.
It just mounts at the front of the carb, and uses the same power wire that goes to the compressor. When the A/C is on, the idle kicks up. The factory ones kept the idle up the whole time the A/C was on, not just when the compressor kicked in.

I just checked my RPM drop when the A/C compressor kicks on and it only fell 60 rpm. My system is stock with freon. I did notice a connector on the power wires to the compressor clutch which nothing was connected to. Maybe come years used the solenoid like Ken mentioned.
