As a new , fist time vette owner thanks again for a great site. Count me in on the up grade. Now to my question

I have an 80 A/C blows cold but down at my feet always. Unknown if related but the former owner(s) cut some wires which come from a grommet just to the left of the distributor. Just next to these wires looks to be a sleeve and what might have been a vacuum hose. I also found a plugged small vacuum line which was lying just forward of the distributor. Anyone got a clue, I'm reluctant to just start pulling things out and hooking things up. At least my feet are cool.

All of the heater, vent, and defrost doors are controlled by those thin vacuum lines. One line goes from the engine to the heater control, then through out the dash. Match the vacuum line colors and splice the cut ones back together. You can splice them by slipping each cut end into a short piece of washer hose.

Just replaced all the vacuum lines on my heater ac controller. The old ones were so brittle they broke every time you touched one. They are sold as a kit from all the suppliers but I got the best price at Zip corvette parts. It would also help to have a sevice manual if the old hoses have been removed or cut.

I just went through a similar exercise on my 82... and the service manual isn't nearly as good as the assembly manual for figuring out what goes where and does what.

In my case, my A/C was blowing through the defroster duct and the defroster was blowing through the A/C duct. Turns out some knucklehead (me?) hooked up two vacuum lines incorrectly. And, unfortunately, one of them was hooked up BEHIND the heater box. Step 1: Disassemble dash. Step 2: Get beer, you'll be here a while. (I blame myself, potentially because I replaced the heater core 2 years ago and it's possible I switched them... but I don't recall unhooking the A/C diverter door vacuum hose... so who knows.) But I digress...

The assembly manual (section B1201, I believe) has LOTS of good pictures on the correct routing.

Thanks guys for all the tips. Thats what makes this site so good. I used up all the beer trying to get the wheels to shine. Mothers worked the best along with the buffing wheels at Home Depot (all recommended on this site). I'll have to get out the Jack Daniels if pull the Dash.

Many times on 80s GM products the diverter valve at the switch fails or comes apart. Then you only get air to the floor. Do you hear a vacuum leak at the switch? I would verify that you have vacuum here.

Thanks markdtm I can't tell, Between the engine and exhaust I can't hear anything. But I can get at that switch to check without too much trouble. I stll don't know what is coming through the firewall at that grommet.

great tips, my heater has been blowing through the bottom vents for a long time now, my ac isn't cold, but it also comes out of the bottom vents. I will have to check the vacuum lines.
