A noise has arisen in my AC compressor. Its not the cycling of the compressor. Its a whine, like a bearing....but it only makes noise when the AC is on.......Is it the bearing or clutch? being that it only makes noise when the ac is on....

It would probably be the bearing. The clutch locks up when it's on, so it shouldn't make any noise. Just one thing after another, isn't it? These old cars will drive you nuts!!!!!

The bearing spins any time the engine is running. If it is ONLY making noise when the compressor clutch kicks in, the problem is most likely the compressor. The clutch will sometimes make a noise when it kicks in if it is worn, or otherwise damaged, but it is always a grinding noise. Sorry, Dan...looks like your compressor is takin a dump on ya.

Maybe a shot of oil would help, you need oil in the freon to keep the compressor lubed.
Good luck with it Dan,
