The car originally came with factory A/C, but the PO took it off because he was readying the car for racing... so, now that it's in nice and sunny Tampa, I'm getting ready to put it back on and fit it for the new juice.
I'm going to end up purchasing all new parts because the old ones are beyond repair. Anyone have any recommendations as far as what to get? Having it stock is not an issue with me, the car is beyond salvageable to stock-quality. My next Vette will be the trailer queen
I guess what I'm looking for is if I should buy all the 1974 parts, install them, then retrofit them for the new freon, or should I get some newer stuff?
Halp..

The post on "R134-a retrofit and charging kit" should answer most of your questions. Go to the links it mentions and read the FAQs on when to and not to change major units in the air system.

Nothing yet unfortunately... Still working on so many minor things, and with the great weather we're having, I need a heater, not an AC right now :)
BTW: Beautiful vette, that color is amazing

Hello,
I believe Corvette Central has a all in one kit with all that you need to have. It is all of the major pieces needed to have a modern system in an already A/C equiped car. $1100.00 as I recall which is less than you would pay to have the old system renovated and recharged.

thanks , the color looks better in person. Maybe we'll meet sometime. I plan in attending some of the local meets soon. i just got back from an assignment in Arkansas and i'll be home in Florida for the next 2 months.

Yeah, I've been looking at those kits as my best option so far. *sigh* Right now have to save money to rebuild my engine ($1,300), paint the car ($3,000) re-do the interior ($500) and add the AC System ($1,100)
Then the car is better than new!
Bradenton, that's just a hop from me in Tampa. I'm sure we'll meet up at a car show somewhere down the line.

i have decided to get my AC recharged with R-12. it is still avaiable and after having an AC shop look at mine they wanted to convert to 134. but would have to change lots of parts to get it to work as well as R12. by staying with R12 i just need the broken compressor replaced and the system purged and filled. i contacted a referegerent company and they told me that 134 will work as well as R12 but the entire system has to be set up for 134 which is why the AC shop had to replace all the extra parts also the 134 works at much higher pressures and that R12 systems arn't engineered to work at these higher pressures especially in such older cars as mine.
