Does anyone have this unit in their Vette or know anything about this co? It sounds good. I talked to the place in Forth Worth yesterday. He said it would cost $1700 installed. I told him about my interior heat problem coming through the a/c/heating vents. He said that would be GONE! All of the factory stuff would be replaced and that would no longer be a problem. That alone would be worth the money to me.  What do y'all think? Heck, I might even be able to make the run to PF. Any opinions to help me make a decision would greatly be appreciated. Dwain, check the price with this company, I used them. Hot Rod Air in Texas..  http://www.hotrodair.com/products.cfm. I only needed a compressor and some fittings. They were the best..Terry

I agree, I installed this system over 2 yrs ago...no problems & it's worked fine since the install.

Does it come in a kit for installation or do they install it.  I have to decide what to do with my airconditioning before we take the trip to PF.

  • www.classicautoair.com sells the kit or will install it also. (see my first post) I haven't talked to  http://www.hotrodair.com yet. Looking at both websites, they look pretty similar. I'm going to do one or the other after I check them out further. I need an a/c expert to compare systems, components, price, etc.

I have Hot Rod Air Systems in two C-3's.  A 73 and an 82.  Both work perfectly.  It was harder to install the system in the 82 than the 73.  Compressor brackets had to be cut and reshaped for the 82 because their systems are made for the C-3 and the 82 has different headers.  Good systems, they were easy to install, instructions were good, they work well and they were helpful, especially Wayne.  Recommend the Hot Rod Air System.

I checked out Hot Rod Air and Vintage Air. The places that install their systems wanted a LOT more money than Classic Auto Air. Plus, It'll be done at the factory, so hopefully it'll be right. They all use Sanden compressors, but Classic uses their lastest 7 cyl. compressor instead of the 5 cyl. Gotta do it before the weather warms up though. I'd never make the 3.5 - 4 hr. drive to Forth Worth. I rarely have to use the heater except late at night now. I'll let y'all know how it works out. If I can get all the stuff I need to do finished on the 'money pit', maybe I can make it to PF. May have to sleep in the car though.

Vette(s): 1969 coupe father/son project car. This car is currently in boxes, but the plan it to have it running in 3 yrs

How difficult is it to add AC, such as the systems from these vendors to a non-air car?  Is there a separate thread or "how to" on this subject?

As indicated above, I have installed two of the Hot Rod Air systems; they are great and they always work.  Send a PM and I will tell you the whole process.

I've only one thing to say. If someone tries to sell you on 'Classic Auto Air', save yourself a LOT of grief and run!.  Mine's been back three times after installation and cooler weather prevented using it after the last time.  Gittin' about that time though. We'll see how long it last this time. Their install was a Censored mess. Ask Joel, he had to redo it all correctly. He's probably still cussin' too. LOL
